Rangers of the Karen National Defence Organisation work the forests around villages such as Mu Aye Pu. Alongside them, Wildlife Protection Units of the KNU Kawthoolei Forestry Department operate in several KNU districts, with support over many years from KESAN and the Karen Wildlife Conservation Initiative.
A 2019 field essay described those units as embedded within villages like Mu Aye Pu. The labour is local: walking forest, keeping hunting law, watching the river. It is not a slogan.
Ranger names, patrol routes and camps are not published. The people who walk this forest are still the story. Conservation here is Karen labour, not an outside brand. See Nature and Conservation.
