Bears of these forests
Two Asiatic black bears lived here in village care. A small cafe later took their name. Neither is a zoo, and the cafe is not open now.
Camera-trap work in Karen State forests has recorded the Malayan sun bear (Helarctos malayanus) and the Asiatic black bear among other threatened mammals. Hunting taboos and village rangers are part of how that forest is kept. Wild bears in the hills and two animals in a village enclosure are different facts.
Tribal Action Group’s The Bears of Mu Aye Pu (2018) is a public film of two Asiatic black bears taken in by the village after poaching, with Jungle Doctor. Caves and Bears followed in 2019. Those films are the public story of the pair. Particular animals are not named beyond what those films already show.
The village then had a small cafe, 2 Bears Cafe, named for them. Facebook invited people to it at Mu Aye Pu. A volunteer in 2020 described a shop being started for visitors who had already come. It once operated. This site does not take bookings for it, and it does not invite anyone to treat the animals as an attraction. See visit and landscape ecology.
